Breast Augmentation

Conveniently located to serve Plano, TX

Breast augmentation/breast enlargement is performed by Dr. Patty Young at Premier Plastic Surgery of Texas in Plano. She is skilled and well-trained in this procedure and has vast experience in dealing with many types of breasts.

Please read over the following for more detail on the procedure.

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical enhancement procedure to accentuate the size and shape of a woman’s breasts. While breast augmentation will make the breasts larger, the surgery may not move the breasts closer together or lift sagging breasts. If the breasts have excess skin or sag, you may also require a breast lift in addition to the augmentation. Breast augmentation is a tremendous help to patients who desire a fuller profile, who have lost breast volume due to pregnancy or nursing, who have lost weight, or who have undergone breast reconstruction and want to gain a more natural look again.

Reasons for Considering Breast Augmentation:

  • Enhance body shape by making the breasts more proportionate
  • Improve one’s self-image
  • Increase breast volume after pregnancy, nursing, or weight loss
  • Equalize a difference in breast size (cup size) to gain breast symmetry
  • Reconstruct breasts following a mastectomy or injury

General Procedure

Breast augmentation involves making a small incision to insert a breast implant into the breast area in order to enlarge the breast mounds. The surgery in Plano is commonly performed on an outpatient basis at a hospital or state-of-the-art surgical facility while the patient is under general anesthesia. There are a couple of possible locations for the small incisions used to insert the breast implants. The most frequent technique and the one Dr. Young utilizes in her practice is an incision made in the lower portion of the breast.

During surgery, the breast tissue is raised to create an open pocket under the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. Inserting an implant behind each breast or under the muscle can increase a woman’s breast size by one or more bra cup sizes. Implants can contain a saline solution (similar to saltwater) or a silicone gel. The newest silicone implants are called “Gummy Bears”. Silicone implants are now approved by the FDA for use in all patients. In some circumstances, particularly those in which there is breast asymmetry (uneven breast size), an inflatable implant/tissue expander may be used to allow the surgeon to adjust the level of inflation to attain breast symmetry and balance stretching the skin to be able to accept an implant at a future surgery. Breast augmentation surgery typically lasts from 1 to 3 hours.

Recovery Process

Generally, post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and recovery time. Surgical tape is applied right after surgery and should remain for several weeks. This will aid the healing process and minimize the scars. You will be given a surgical bra that needs to be worn post-operatively. Please remember to keep the movement of the breasts at a minimum, no giggling or exercising until released to do so by Dr. Young. Patients sometimes report minor pain associated with the surgery. This pain can be treated effectively with oral medication. While complications are rare, patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following the directions given by the physician after surgery in Plano.

Patient Testimonial

I can not find the words to describe my experience with Dr. Young and her staff. To say that they are “wonderful”, “skilled” or caring professionals is an understatement. I waited quite a while to find the right surgeon for my breast augmentation and I’m glad I did! Had I gone with the first surgeon I consulted with, or even the second or third, I would have missed out on the experience that changed my life. I felt cared for, protected and valued as a patient and human being. I am laying it on thick because it’s the truth. My breasts are gorgeous, natural-looking, and proportionate to my body.
